Ewe-nique Sheep

Sheep often get overlooked compared to animals like tigers and lions, however they’ve been our buddies for a long time – over 10,500 years, to be exact. Back when people started farming, sheep were one of the first animals we domesticated. They’ve been around through thick and thin, witnessing the rise and fall of different societies.

Contrary to what some might think, sheep are more than just fluffy creatures who have a particular love of grass, silage, clover and hay. They’re smart and social animals. In a flock, you can see them interacting, forming bonds, and working together.

Besides giving us wool, which has been used for clothing for ages, sheep have been a source of food – both meat and milk. They’ve also played a role in protecting farms. Sheep are beneficial in their ability to adapt to different environments, making them important in various cultures worldwide.

Did you know that sheep are immune to the effects of poison ivy? Or, that they have an excellent sense of smell? Shepherds will also tell you that sheep have very distinct personalities and are sensitive animals.

So, the next time you see a flock of sheep in a field, remember they’ve been our friends for thousands of years. They’ve provided us with more than just wool – they’ve been part of our history, from ancient times to today.
